ROCKtober Indie Music Review

Hey Chompers and Chompettes, this is your favorite green dude and I don’t mean environmental…..I mean GREEN….Alligator Jackson. Forget Kermit The Frog…. I’m the GREEN DUDE. Anyway, it’s Rocktober. Yep, the busy season is beginning as both majors and indie’s alike scramble for a place in your Christmas stocking in December. Yep, lots of great indie tunes are being released in the next few months. Lots goin’ on in our great big indie world!!

Ace Frehley

The Spaceman, ex Kiss guitarist, Ace Frehley joined the indie ranks when he self-released his latest CD, "Anomaly" on his own Bronx Born Records. The CD charted on Billboard in the US at number 27, as it sold around 17,000 copies.

Powerman 5000

Powerman 5000 is unleashing “Somewhere On The Other Side of Nowhere”
on October 6. The powerful futuristic release containing the single “Super Villian” is being released on Powerman 5000 vocalist’s Spider One’s (Rob Zombie’s brother) Megatronic Records. With a huge powerful electro-metal release, Powerman 5000 may just return to the platinum status they achieved in 1999 with “Tonight The Stars Revolt.”
According to Spider One: “I couldn’t be happier with the results. I finally feel like we made an album that is not only what we wanted it to be, but also a record the fans are going to love.”

Additional Releases

Other former platinum acts releasing indie CDs in October include Lita Ford. Lita, who had major hits with “Kiss Me Deadly” and the classic duet with Ozzy Osbourne “Close My Eyes Forever,” released “Wicked Wonderland” on her own JLRG Entertainment label on October 6. The album was produced by her husband Jim Gillette, who also helped out on backing vocals. “Wicked Wonderland” is Lita’s hardest and sexiest effort yet, as she returns to the music biz after a fifteen-year absence.

Other lovely ladies of metal are in the indie news as well this month. Hydrogyn, fronted by the lovely Julie, are currently remixing their first CD “Best Served With Volume.” The CD has been a collector’s item since the band exploded with “Bombshell.” According to The Rev Davo who remixed it with guitarist Jeff Westlake: “We used today's technology where we needed and brought the product out the way it needed to be heard without re recording anything and just using what was there. It is an amazing difference on how it worked out and for those who own the original you won't believe how different it sounds and how much better it sounds now." Check out Hydrogyn's website to preorder the remix. Hydrogen’s “Bombshell” is also going to be available on vinyl.

Veronica Freeman, the lead vocalist of Benedictum, will be guesting on Skye Pilot’s Show on October 30. The hard rocking band out of San Diego is in the studio working on a new CD that will be out either at the end of this year or early next year.

Gary Jeffries, the original vocalist of Asphalt Ballet, who rocked MTV’s Headbanger’s Ball back in the early 90’s and released a classic self titled CD on Virgin Records, is back recording with Asphalt Ballet. The band hopes to have their first release in over 15 years available very soon. Gary says it is harder and more modern than the classic debut release.

Columbus, Ohio’s party rockers American Dog have a new CD coming out very soon. Their website mentions a possible October release.

Tarsha, the Hollywood based band featuring ex-Adler’s Appetite singer Sheldon Tarsha, is currently in the studios working on their next CD. The band will be playing a special show at the legendary Whiskey A GoGo on West Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood on Halloween Eve, October 30. Sheldon is also working with Phoenix based ICON. They performed at Rocklahoma and are working on a release for next year.
