Unveiled: Introducing Joetown

Rock fans often approach new artists with wary optimism, but Joetown will soon win over fans. As Chris Holmes (W.A.S.P.) sums it up, “Joe’s the real deal.”

A guitarist, singer, song writer with the ear of a producer Joe Delaney (Joetown) has all the makings of a legendary rock artist. The band Joetown formed in 1997, and the Connecticut band released its first album (Rock and Roll Man) three years later. One Joetown fan enthusiastically touted the band, “This is what rock and roll is all about - dirty, mean and nasty!” Joetown

Joetown has long been called one of rock’s best kept secrets, but is ready to shed that title. With its third album, “Pills and Ammo,” Joetown is poised to burst onto the national music scene with a vengeance. (See our review of the album.)

Unlike most modern bands Joetown takes a more basic approach to the recording process. “I’m really old school when I try to capture and create a record,” says Joe. Joetown records their music with the entire band playing live in the studio instead of one instrument at a time. They strive to capture the energy and even slight imperfections that come with a more raw approach. Joe uses the recording technology of today, without relying on it to heavily to create the Joetown sound. Joe is a fan of the classics. In addition to Deep Purple, The Doors and Black Sabbath, Joe credits a variety of influences. “Things find their way in. Everything from Motown to Miles Davis."

It is clear while listening to “Pills and Ammo” that he has both old school and more modern influences. Joetown is a hard rockin’ band that bounces between rock and metal from track to track on the new album. The title of the new record is also consistent with this genre jumping phenomenon. When asked about the album's name, Joe explained it like this, “There are songs on the record that are the ammo. The big-gun stuff that is heavy and in your face and then there are things on the record like "L.A. Tuning." which is me solo with an acoustic guitar. The idea was there are the pills that are the downer stuff then there’s the ammo that takes your head off. Drugs and weapon references are always good in rock-n-roll.” Joetown is a band that a wide demographic can appreciate. When not in the studio or on the road with Joetown, Joe spends his time traveling around the country peddling Bugera guitar amplifiers and rubbing elbows with a who’s who of music industry professionals, not a bad gig. He had what had to have been a memorable experience at this year's NAMM, convention finding himself on stage with and receiving praise from rock legends Chris Slade (AC/DC, The Firm), Kip Winger (Winger), Earl Slick (John Lennon, David Bowie), Bruce Kulick (Kiss) and Mark Hudson (Aerosmith producer, Rock-n-Roll Fantasy Camp.) Currently Joe is doing a clinic tour with Bugera Amps, playing acoustic shows and radio performances. Look for the entire band to be back on the road in May and June and hopefully through the summer.
