American Dog - "Mean"
America's party band American Dog are back with another balls to the wall set of party classics. Sounding like the bastard child of Motorhead and George Thorogood, American Dog bitchslaps their way through eleven rockers.
From the opening lines of the cd opener "Just One More" - "Here we go again/ knocking down your doors/ getting good and loud/ looking for some whores" to the closing seconds of the cd with "Motherfucker" (which features the melody of the old Dr. Pepper "Im a Pepper, You're a Pepper" commercial with the lyrics "Be a fucker, be a motherfucker..."), "Mean" is chock full of 100 percent American badass rock and roll.
Rock fans know what to expect with American Dog and they never come away disappointed. American Dog is the only band besides maybe Motorhead that sticks to the same tried and true formula, but yet manages to consistently top their last cd. "Hard" was a monster of a party rock album and it seemed unlikely that American dog could top it. But, just when it seemed like American Dog made the "Back In Black" of party albums, they rise to the next label with their new release "Mean."
"Hard" had the classic single "Sometimes You Get The Pussy," a good time stomper that would have made Ted Nugent himself proud, "Mean" has the rambunctious "Cat Has you By the Tongue," if not better than Hard's lead single than at least a big dog from the same porch. The album's title "Mean" perfectly describes the rambunctious attitude American Dog displays as they rip tunes like "Boozehound," "Mean," and "Drivin' Down The Sidewalk."
There's also an amped up cover of Blue Oyster Cult's "This Ain't the Summer of Love" and a traditional southern rock blues number called "Sunshine/ Moonshine." Yep, you know what you are going to get when you get an American Dog cd, but you also know what's going to happen when you buy a case of beer. In both cases, you come away with a big smile on your face. "Mean" is one helluva of an ass kickin' ride, kind of like running with a pack of hard drinkin', hungry pitbulls.
